Meet our faculty, Dr. Cara Lozinsky

Dr. Cara Lozinsky joined the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department in July 2024 as an Assistant Professor. Dr. Lozinsky’s research lies at the nexus between building air flow, building design, and indoor air quality, focusing on opportunities to improve occupant health and well-being as well as energy efficiency.  Her work uses simulation-based approaches together with field studies in existing buildings, measuring building airtightness, air flow, mechanical ventilation system performance, and indoor air and environmental quality, to understand how buildings perform in-service and how we can improve building design and operation. Dr. Lozinsky’s work also focuses on improving the reliability of field measurement techniques for building airtightness, both in research and industry applications.

Dr. Lozinsky earned undergraduate degrees in Civil Engineering and Psychology from the University of British Columbia, an M.A.Sc. and Ph.D. (both in Civil Engineering) from the University of Toronto and was a post-doctoral researcher at Lawrence Berkeley National Labs in Berkeley, California. Prior to pursuing her graduate studies, Dr. Lozinsky worked for six years as a consulting engineer in the building science sector, specializing in building envelope restoration of multi-family and commercial buildings. She has been licensed as a Professional Engineer for nine years. She is also an active member of the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air Conditioning Engineers’ Technical Committee on Ventilation Requirements and Infiltration in Buildings.

Outside of her teaching and research duties at Carleton, Dr. Lozinsky enjoys kayaking, hiking, and baking.

The Department welcomes Dr. Lozinsky and wishes her continued success at CEE!
