Abid Hussain’s Team is Building the First Pilot-Scale Bioenergy Facility in Inuvik, NWT
Environmental Engineering professor Abid Hussain and his research team are in the culmination point of a 3-year process in building the first pilot-scale bioenergy facility in Inuvik, NWT. The facility will advance technologies developed at Carleton University from laboratory research to pilot-scale implementation under real northern operating conditions.
This project is supported by the federal government, The Town of Inuvik and local commercial partners including grocery retailers. The facility will demonstrate the conversion of municipal solid waste- particularly food waste- into renewable methane-rich biogas.
Their aim is to reduce landfill dependency while supporting cleaner.

This is an exciting development for Prof. Abid’s team and for their local partners in Inuvik (NWT) in addressing critical challenges facing northern communities. and more sustainable infrastructure for Arctic regions.
