International Science and Technology Partnerships Canada (ISTPCanada), the Global Innovation & Technology Alliance (GITA) and the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Government of India, are hosting Calls for Proposals (CFP) for industry-led collaborative R&D projects between Canada and India. Academic institutions, research hospitals, other R&D institutes, are strongly encouraged to participate in the projects as co-investigators in Canada and India.
Objective:
Companies are invited to propose collaborative R&D projects that:
- Enable the joint development of innovative products or processes
- Address a specific market need or challenge
- Demonstrate high commercial potential
- Deliver benefit to all participants, and more broadly, to both countries
All Canada-India Calls invite bilateral R&D projects that enable the joint development of innovative products or processes. All Calls require a company to serve as the Canadian project leader. Please find below an overview of eligible project leaders from India for each Call:
- ISTPCanada-GITA CFP: A company is required to serve as the India project leader;
- ISTPCanada-DBT CFP: Companies; academic institutions; research hospitals; or other R&D institutes are eligible to serve as the India project leader
Funding: Canada
On the Canadian side, funding recipients are eligible to receive up to a maximum of CDN $400,000 or up to 50 percent of the eligible R&D project value.
- Funding awarded to private companies will be provided as a repayable contribution; these recipients are required to repay this contribution upon the commercial success of the project;
- As a funding partner, the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) will award funding directly to collaborating Canadian university and college researchers as a non-repayable grant if the project has an integrated CRD (Collaborative R&D) or ARD (Applied R&D) component. (Please note this is not mandatory.)
Funding: India
On the Indian side, recipients are eligible to receive a maximum of CDN $400,000 or up to 50 percent of the total Indian project costs from GITA or DBT.
Priority Sectors:
ISTPCanada and GITA will accept quality applications in the following sectors:
- Sustainable environmental technologies and alternative energy;
- Information and communication technologies;
- Earth sciences and disaster management;
- Photonics; and
- Nanotechnology as an enabling technology for all above sectors.
ISTPCanada and DBT will accept quality applications in the following sectors:
- Biotechnology;
- Health Research;
- Pharmaceuticals;
- Medical devices; and
- Nanotechnology as an enabling technology for all above sectors.
