The German Academic Exchange Service, DAAD, offers grants for one to three months in all academic disciplines to scholars at Canadian institutions of higher education to pursue research at universities, libraries, archives, institutes or laboratories in Germany. Grants are awarded for specific research projects and cannot be used for travel only, attendance at conferences or conventions, editorial meetings, lecture tours or extended guest professorships.

Depending on the applicant’s academic status, the monthly award will amount to €1,840 for assistant lecturers, assistant professors and young lecturers, and €1,990 for professors. In rare special cases, up to €2,240 may be awarded. If the applicants’ research project requires travel within Germany DAAD may provide a travel subsidy of up to €150. Airfare to Germany will NOT be covered.

All DAAD Grantees receive mandatory health insurance through DAAD. Their monthly contribution to the insurance €111 is deducted from the stipend.
