Canada-Brazil Awards – Joint Research Projects

Funding Amount

  • Funding for a maximum of five (5) Canadian PhD students per project, per year for a period of six (6) months in Brazil.
  • Funding will also be provided to the Canadian Project Lead for one (1) short-term faculty visit to Brazil per year, if required.
  • The scholarship value is:
    • $9,700 CAN for Canadian PhD students; and
    • $2,700 CAN for the Canadian Project Lead for a minimum period of ten (10) days.

Details

The Government of Canada is pleased to announce the launch of the Canada-Brazil Awards – Joint Research Projects for 2013-2015. This program is offered in partnership with the Government of Brazil.

The objective of this scholarship program is to support team-oriented research projects between Canadian and Brazilian universities in key areas of bilateral cooperation and mutual interest which encourage research collaboration as well as graduate student mobility.

Joint research projects funded by DFAIT (Canadian team) and by CAPES (Brazilian team) to support PhD students exchanges. Teams will be composed of a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 5 PhD students and one project lead (faculty) from each institution/country. The research project must lead to a joint peer-reviewed article or book publication from an academic publisher following the completion of the project.  The projects must engage in collaborative research in key academic areas of bilateral cooperation leading to an eventual publication or collaborative research in line with the objectives of the Canada-Brazil Framework Agreement for Cooperation on Science, Technology and Innovation.  Applicants must clearly explain the advantages of the partnership for both countries.
