Background

The Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development (DFATD) has recently announced several calls for proposals for international development projects in Tanzania, Egypt, Jordan, Democratic Republic of Congo, Morocco and South Sudan.

Opportunity

Improving maternal and newborn health in underserved areas in Tanzania

To fund projects that will improve maternal and newborn health in underserved areas in Tanzania. Projects are for 3-5 years, valued at $8-12 million.

Deadline for proposal submissions: August 14, 2015.

Support for Child and Youth Protection Initiatives in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC)
This call for proposals is designed to support project proposals whose objective is to improve the well-being of children and youth in the DRC through child and youth protection initiatives. Projects are for 3-5 years, valued at $3-5 million.

Deadline for proposal submissions: October 22, 2015.

Women’s Economic Empowerment in Egypt
The call for proposals is designed to support private sector economic growth by increasing women’s entrepreneurship and participation in the work force in Egypt. Projects are for up to 5 years, valued at $3-10 million.

The call for proposals is designed to support private sector economic growth by increasing women’s entrepreneurship and participation in the work force in Jordan. Projects are for up to 5 years, valued at $3-10 million.

From Farms to Markets in South Sudan

To fund projects that that will boost food production and support the market participation of smallholder farmers in order to protect livelihoods. Projects are up to 3 years, valued at $6-8 million.

Eligibility

These development project calls are open to proposals from Canadian, international, multilateral and local organizations working in the respective regions and have between three and five years of experience in managing initiatives of this nature. As such Carleton will be required to join a consortium that includes partners that meet this general and in each call, specific eligibility criteria.

Carleton faculty interested in participating in any of these calls and/or foreign organizations interested creating a consortium with Carleton are encouraged to contact Heloise Emdon, International Projects Manager.

Funding Available

  • Amounts vary. Please review the details of each call for proposals.
  • Project duration vary. Please review the details of each call for proposals.
  • Indirect costs: For non-Canadian organizations, DFATD negotiates the overhead rate on a case-by-case basis.  Negotiations on the overhead rate would take place during negotiations on the overall contribution agreement, that is, after DFATD has approved the initiative. Please contact your Research Facilitator for assistance in budget building, and Carleton’s Indirect Cost Policy for more information.

Deadlines

Different deadlines for each call throughout the summer and Fall. CURO internal deadline for review is 2 weeks before the agency deadline to the sponsor. CURO checklist is due a day before the agency deadline.
