Background

The European Commission’s Horizon 2020 program has launched the 2015 calls for Individual Fellowships (IF) under the Marie Sklowdowska-Curie Actions. The goal of Individual Fellowships is to enhance the creative and innovative potential of experienced researchers wishing to diversify their individual competence in terms of skill acquisition at multi- or interdisciplinary level through advanced training, international and intersectoral mobility.

Opportunity

Individual Fellowships support the mobility of researchers within and beyond Europe – as well as helping to attract the best foreign researchers to work in the EU. The grant usually covers two years’ salary, a mobility allowance, research costs and overheads for the host institution. Individual researchers submit proposals for funding in liaison with their planned host organization.

The following 2 IF may be of interest to Canadian faculty:

Fellowships are either European Fellowships or Global Fellowships. European Fellowships are held in EU Member States or Associated Countries and are open to researchers currently within and outside Europe. This fellowship provides an opportunity for experienced Carleton researchers to undertake fellowships in European institutions. Global Fellowships are based on a secondment to a third country and a mandatory 12 month return period to a European host. This Fellowship provides an opportunity for Carleton faculty to bring European postdoctoral scholars to work under their supervision.

European and Global Fellowships can also include a secondment period of up to 3 or 6 months in another organization in Europe, where this would boost the impact of the fellowship.

Funding Available

  • Funding includes a contribution to research expenses and overhead/indirect costs at the hosting institution.
  • Project duration: 1-2 years
