Background

Mitacs is a national, private not-for-profit organization that has designed and delivered unique research and training programs in Canada for 15 years. As a complement to its domestic initiatives, Mitacs has a series of international programs which provide two-way knowledge and talent exchange between key partner countries and Canada. Such international opportunities provide a means to expand Canada’s academic connections facilitating the exchange of knowledge and ideas.

Opportunity

The Globalink Research Award offers graduate students at Mitacs full and associate partner universities (Carleton University, included) in Canada the opportunity to undertake research at Inria Research Centres in France.  Each research project will occur over a 12 to 24 week period and will be jointly supervised by faculty members in Canada and by a recognized research member at Inria.

Eligibility

  • Award is open to graduate students conducting applied research in information and communication science and technology along the following research streams:

o   Applied mathematics, computation and simulation

o   Algorithmic, programming, software and architecture

o   Networks, systems and services, distributed computing

o   Perception, cognition, interaction

o   Digital health, biology and earth

  • Graduate students are eligible to apply to this competitive award
  • Intern must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or international student

Funding Available and Timeline

  • Up to $5,000 from Mitacs to support the student’s travel and project costs
  • Additional monthly funding provided by Inria (up to the stated amount):
    • 1,100 per Master’s student
    • 1,200 per PhD student
  • Application submission at least 10-12 weeks prior to departure to allow time to make travel and accommodation arrangements, obtain necessary travel documents and complete necessary international pre-departure requirements
  • Project start as early as March 2, 2015 and as late as December 31, 2015
