Mayor’s Mission to India

Harry Sharma, Manager of the Canada-India Centre, joined Mayor Jim Watson on a trade mission to India this month. He visited New Delhi, Mumbai, and Bangalore and held bi-lateral discussions with leading Indian academic and private organizations including TERI University, IIM-A, ASSOCHAM, Indian Angels Network, NITTTR, CSIO, Reliance Industries, Tech Mahindra, and the Data Security Council of India (DSCI). As a result of Harry’s trip, over the coming weeks, the Canada-India Centre will be entering into formal relationships with many of the aforementioned organizations to create a suite of certification programs and to launch an “India Acceleration Program” for Canadian small and medium businesses.

 arab day Arab Nations Day Celebration

On March 30, 2016 Carleton University was pleased to host, on behalf of the Council of Arab League Ambassadors in Ottawa, a day of cultural celebration. Hundreds of students, staff and faculty wandered through a souk market showcasing each country in the League. Also in attendance were diplomats and dignitaries most participating countries. Attendees were treated to coffee and sweets, a traditional lunch, and a cultural dance presentation. President Runte attended the ribbon cutting of a photo gallery depicting iconic locations from each country.

 netherlands Visit to the Netherlands

Associate Vice-President (Research and International) Pauline Rankin will travel with a delegation of University Presidents on a “fact finding mission” to the Netherlands the week of May 23rd hosted by the Dutch Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Economic Affairs. Topics for discussion have been identified in the areas of Health Sciences, Startup Hubs, Energy, Water Management and High Technology, among others.

The Canada-India Centre hosted a seminar to celebrate 125th birth anniversary of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, a key architect of India’s constitution. The seminar featured prominent speakers including Dr. Anupama Rao and Dr. Arun Mukherjee who spoke of Ambedkar’s philosophy of social justice and equality and how it continues to be relevant in the today’s globalized world. The seminar was attended by over 100 participants representing the public, private and academic sectors.
