The Commemorative Organization for the Japan World Exhibition invites applications for its Japan world exposition commemorative fund. This supports projects that commemorate the success of the Japan world exposition 1970 and contribute to the promotion of public interest by enabling international cultural exchange and international goodwill, projects in the fields of academic study, education, social welfare, medical care, hygiene and public health, and projects designed for conservation of nature and human environment.

Opportunity

The funding will cover expenses for printing and binding, venue rentals, stage-related expenses, equipment rentals, purchases and transportation, book purchases, travel expenses, transportation between sites, accommodation expenses, interpreter and translation fees, as well as construction and enhancement costs.Eligibility

National governments, local governments and other non-profit organisations worldwide may apply. For-profit organisations and individuals are not eligible.

Funding Available

Grants available range between JPY 1 million and JPY 10m, and will cover half of the total grant-eligible project costs. Countries where the GNI per capita is USD 5,000 or less will receive within 90 per cent of the total grant-eligible project expenses, and countries where the GNI per capita is USD 5,000 or less with an International Development Association financing qualified country will receive within 100 per cent of the the total grant-eligible project costs. The total budget is JPY 100m. The limit of the grant amount is specified for each type of project as follows:

  • performance or exhibition – JPY 4m;
  • international conference – JPY 3m;
  • purchase of books – JPY 2m;
  • publication of books, film, tv programme, website production or similar – JPY 3m;
  • invitation or dispatch of experts – JPY 3m;
  • purchase of equipment for learning Japanese – JPY 5m;
  • purchase of equipment other than equipment for learning Japanese – JPY 8m;
  • contstruction or enhancement of a facility – JPY 10m;
  • exhibiting at an international exhibition – JPY 10m.
