A total of five of the National Institutes of Health invite applications for their assay development and screening for discovery of probes or therapeutic agents (R01) funding opportunity. This supports research in discovery and development of novel, small molecules for their potential use in studying disease treatment, and to generate new insight into the biology of relevant diseases and processes that are not yet drug targets. Stages of discovery research covered include:
