The Canada and Latin America Research & Exchange Opportunities (CALAREO) Consortium was formed in 2018 to support faculty and student mobility to Latin America. This includes exchange programs, scholarships, and research collaborations.
The Mitacs-CALAREO Globalink Research Award (GRA) program provides funding to senior undergraduate and graduate students, as well as postdoctoral fellows, for short research trips (3-6 months) between Carleton and select countries in Latin America. These research trips are to conduct student-led projects that must be completed within the timeframe of the award.
This is an open call with no deadline, but please note that there are a limited number of awards available.
- Eligible Countries
-
This opportunity currently supports travel and research between Canada and Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, and Mexico.
- Duration
-
Research trips must be between 12 weeks and 6 months.
- Applicant Eligibility
-
Carleton Applicants:
Carleton senior undergraduate and graduate students, as well as postdoctoral fellows, are invited to apply. Applicants must find a supervisor at their intended host institutions and work closely with their Carleton supervisor on the application form. Award recipients must remain registered full-time during the research visit and cannot take up the award where they have previously completed a degree and/or been employed, or in a country where they hold citizenship (unless they are also a citizen or permanent resident of Canada). Applicants cannot hold more than one GRA per academic lifetime or have previously held a Mitacs-JSPS Summer Program award.
Carleton faculty members looking to build or strengthen international partnerships are encouraged to nominate an undergraduate or graduate student, or a postdoctoral fellow from an eligible country for a co-supervised research project. Host and home supervisors must hold a faculty or adjunct position. If successful, recipients and hosts must follow the procedures for visiting researchers.
International Applicants:
Senior undergraduate and graduate students, as well as postdoctoral fellows from an eligible country, are welcome to apply. Applicants must first find a faculty member at Carleton interested in hosting them during their research visit. If successful, award recipients must remain enrolled full-time at their home institution during the research visit, in addition to following the procedures for visiting researchers.
