The International Research Mobility Experience (IRME) project offers eligible undergraduate students enrolled at a CALAREO member institution funding to conduct short-term research internships (1 to 4 weeks) in Latin America or the Caribbean under the supervision of a faculty member from the home and/or host institution. Projects can be led by a Carleton faculty members (with or without an international partner) or by a faculty member at an institution in an eligible country. IRME can fund up to 5 students per CALAREO member, with $4,000 per student or $5,000 for underrepresented students (who self-identify as low-income, Indigenous, or students with disabilities). At least half of the funding is to support underrepresented students.
- Internship Options

- Carleton faculty with research projects or collaborations in the region are invited to take students on short research trips (1-4 weeks) to work on their projects. These projects can be new or already in progress. Faculty must fund their own travel arrangements.
- A research partner or colleague in a Latin American or Caribbean institution may host or supervise one or more Carleton students on a research project.
- Student Eligibility

- Student participants must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents
- Students must be 18 years of age or older (no upper age limit)
- Students must be in good standing
- Participants must be undergraduate students
- Students can be registered in any discipline or program
- International students are ineligible for funding

Faculty members can nominate one or more students by completing the form below. If a Carleton faculty member has a project or a partner who is interested in hosting but needs assistance finding students, please contact the International Projects Coordinator. Alternatively, students can self-nominate by submitting the Expression of Interest form.
