Dr. Christopher N. Dougherty is currently a Postdoctoral Fellow with the Charity Insights Canada Project at Carleton University and an Honorary Research Fellow with the University of St Andrews. He is originally from Calgary and came to research after a 14-year career in the Canadian charitable sector working and volunteering with organizations across the prairies. He now studies charities to understand the relationships between charities and the groups that shape them, including individual and institutional donors, other charities, and governments. His earlier research has been funded by a SSHRC Postdoctoral Fellowship and a SSHRC Doctoral Fellowship. He has earned a PhD in Public Policy from Carleton University, a Master of Philanthropy and Nonprofit Leadership from Carleton University, a Bachelor of Applied Nonprofit Studies from Mount Royal University, and is Certified in Volunteer Administration. Christopher has previously taught in the MPNL program at Carleton University and has guest lectured on topics related to charities at the University of St Andrews and the University of Glasgow.
