Using Patterns

Once a pattern has been created, it can be inserted into any page or post on your website. Patterns allow you to quickly add reusable layouts, content sections, and design elements without rebuilding them from scratch each time.

Whether you’re using a synced pattern for shared content or a non-synced pattern as a starting template, patterns can dramatically speed up page creation while helping maintain consistency across your site.

Why Use Patterns?

Patterns help:

• Create content faster
• Maintain a consistent look and feel
• Reduce repetitive work
• Standardize common layouts
• Reuse successful page sections

For example, instead of rebuilding the same call-to-action section on multiple pages, you can simply insert a pattern whenever you need it.

Adding a Pattern to a Page

To insert a pattern:

1. Open the page or post where you want the pattern to appear.
2. Open the block inserter.
3. Select the Patterns tab.
4. Open My Patterns.
5. Select the pattern you want to use.

The pattern will be inserted into the page.

From this point forward, what happens next depends on whether the pattern is synced or non-synced.

Working with Non-Synced Patterns

Non-synced patterns behave like reusable templates.

Once inserted:

• ✅ You can freely edit the content.
• ✅ Changes only affect the current page.
• ✅ Other pages using the same pattern remain unchanged.

Example

You create a Program Page Template pattern containing:

Introduction
Program Overview
Key Benefits
Contact Information

After inserting it, you can customize the content for each specific program without affecting any other pages.

This makes non-synced patterns ideal for page layouts and content structures.

Working with Synced Patterns

Synced patterns remain connected to the original pattern.

Once inserted:

• ✅ The content remains synchronized.
• ✅ Updates to the pattern affect every instance across the website.

Example

A synced pattern containing the following might appear on dozens of pages.

Contact Us
Phone Number
Email Address

If the contact information changes and the pattern is updated, every page using that pattern updates automatically.

This is extremely useful when content must remain identical throughout the site.

Detaching a Synced Pattern

Sometimes you want to start with a synced pattern but customize a specific version.

In this situation, you can detach the pattern.

Once detached:

• ✅ The content becomes independent.
• ✅ Changes affect only the current page.
• ✅ Updates to the original synced pattern will no longer apply.

To Detach a Synced Pattern

1. Select the synced pattern.
2. Open the block options menu (three dots).
3. Choose Detach Pattern.

The pattern is now a regular collection of blocks.

When Should I Detach a Pattern?

Consider detaching when:

• A page requires custom content.
• Only one instance should be modified.
• You need a variation of the pattern.
• Site-wide updates are no longer desirable.

Example

You use a synced call-to-action pattern:

• Apply Today

On one page, you instead want:

• Book a Consultation

Detaching the pattern allows you to customize that page without affecting every other page using the same pattern.
