Basic Training Module 1: Getting Started
Before you can create or update content, you’ll need to log in to your cutheme website. The WordPress administration area is where editors manage pages, news posts, media, forms, and other website content.
Access to a website is granted by a site administrator. If you believe you should have access but are unable to log in, contact your site’s administrator or the Web Services team for assistance.
Step-By-Step
Follow these steps to access your website:
- Navigate to your website in a web browser.
- Add
/wp-adminto the end of the website address. - Press Enter to open the login page.
- Sign in using your MyCarletonOne username and password.
- Complete any additional authentication steps if prompted.
- After successfully signing in, you will be taken to the WordPress Dashboard.
Tip: If you are already signed in to another Carleton service, you may be logged in automatically.
Common Login Issues

If you can sign in but do not have access to the website, your account may not have been granted the appropriate permissions. Contact your site administrator or the Web Services team to request access.

cutheme uses MyCarletonOne credentials. If you have forgotten your password, follow Carleton University’s password reset process before attempting to log in again.

This issue is often caused by browser cookies or an expired login session. Try:
- Refreshing the page
- Closing and reopening your browser
- Clearing your browser cache and cookies
- Opening the site in a private/incognito window

If you continue to experience issues logging in, contact your site administrator or submit a support request to the Web Services team.

Hello and welcome to getting started with cutheme, module one. In this video, you’re going to learn how to log in to WordPress.
The first thing you need to do is navigate to the homepage of your website that you’re going to be editing.
After that, go to the address bar at the top of your screen and type in “wp-admin.” This will bring you to the screen where you will be prompted to enter your MyCarletonOne credentials.
Once you do that, you’ll be logged into the back end of the website where you’ll see the dashboard. We’re going to cover this and a lot of the other basic functionality in the next few videos!
