Events
Intermediate Training Module 1: Content Types
Event posts are designed specifically for promoting upcoming events and activities. Unlike standard pages or posts, Events include structured information such as dates, times, locations, registration links, and contact details.
Because event information is stored separately from the content itself, events can be displayed automatically in listings, calendars, and promotional sections throughout your website.
Examples include:
- Conferences
- Workshops
- Lectures
- Information sessions
- Open houses
- Community events
When to Use an Event
Use an Event whenever the content is tied to a specific date and time.
An Event should generally include:
- Event title
- Date and time
- Location
- Event description
- Registration information (if applicable)
- Contact information
- Supporting image
Once an event has passed, it can automatically be removed from event listings, helping keep your website current.
Creating an Event
To create an Event:
- From the Dashboard, select Events > Add New.
- Enter a title for the event.
- Add any additional content or event details using blocks.
- Complete the Event Options fields.
Event Details
The Event Options section contains the information visitors need to attend your event.
Date and Time
Enter the event start and end date.
Event dates are used to:
- Display upcoming events
- Order events chronologically
- Remove past events from listings
Location
Specify where the event will take place.
This may be:
- An on-campus location
- An off-campus venue
- An online meeting link
Location information helps visitors understand where and how to participate.
Registration and Information Links
If registration is required, add a button or registration link.
Examples include:
- Register Now
- View Event Details
- Join Online
Contact Information
Provide contact details so visitors know who to reach if they have questions.
Event Images
Events support both preset images and custom featured images.
Preset Images
Some event types may include predefined images that can be selected from a list.
Custom Featured Images
You can also upload a custom image to represent the event.
Featured images are often used in:
- Event listings
- Event cards
- Featured content areas
Recommended image size: 600 × 400 pixels
Choose an image that clearly reflects the event and will remain recognizable when displayed in smaller card layouts.
Adding Additional Content
Like pages and posts, Events support blocks.
You can add:
- Paragraphs
- Headings
- Images
- Lists
- Buttons
- Other supported blocks
This allows you to provide additional details such as:
- Event schedules
- Speaker information
- Parking instructions
- Accessibility information
Displaying Events on Your Website
Events are rarely viewed one at a time.
They are usually displayed through:
- Event listings
- Event cards
- Featured event sections
These layouts automatically pull event information and display it consistently across your website.
You’ll learn how to create event listings in Module 3: Listings & Cards.
Best Practices
Include Complete Event Details
Visitors should be able to answer:
- What is happening?
- When is it happening?
- Where is it happening?
- How do I register?
- Who can I contact?
Use Meaningful Event Images
Choose images that support the event and remain effective when displayed in listings.
Keep Descriptions Concise
Provide enough information for visitors to understand the event without overwhelming them with unnecessary details.
Review Dates Carefully
Incorrect dates or times can cause confusion and may result in visitors missing an event.

Hello, and Welcome to cutheme advanced training, Module 1.
In this video, we will be covering Events.
Event posts are used to list events related to your site, or hosted by your organization. Event posts include all the relevant information, such as time, location, or links to join if it is virtual.
To add an event, go to the dashboard, hover over “Events”, and click Add New.
The first thing you can do is add a title. You can click on the title, and add what you want.
Now, you will see at the bottom that you have Event Options, which you can use to customize the specifics of your event.
You can add a start and end date, including the time of day, the location (Whether it is in-person, virtual, or hybrid), event cost, buttons for registration and other information, and contact information.
The Start date, end date, and location are all required.
When You select in-person, you can choose whether it is on campus or off campus. If it is on-campus, you just select the building and the room number.
For off-campus, you can just enter the address of the location.
For a virtual event, you can chose whether it is on Teams or a zoom, and add a meeting link.
Next, you can choose an image for your event. You can choose one of our presets or upload a custom image.
To add a preset, go to the “Post Thumbnail” tab and select from the dropdown menu. To upload a custom image or use an image from your media library, click on “Featured Image” on the right side of the screen. This image should be 600 x 400 pixels.
Lastly, for the body text of your event, you can use the same blocks as you would for a regular post, to add more information about your event.
