Spaces
Intermediate Training Module 1: Content Types
Spaces are used to create profiles and directories for physical locations such as classrooms, laboratories, meeting rooms, study spaces, and other facilities.
Unlike a standard page, Spaces store information in a structured format, making it easier to organize, filter, and display locations across your website. Visitors can browse available spaces and quickly find information such as location, capacity, equipment, and accessibility features.
Examples include:
- Classrooms
- Research laboratories
- Meeting rooms
- Event venues
- Study spaces
- Collaborative workspaces
When to Use a Space
Use a Space whenever you need to provide information about a physical location.
A Space profile can include:
- Room name or number
- Building location
- Capacity
- Equipment
- Accessibility features
- Photos
- Virtual tours or orientation links
- Additional descriptive information
Creating Spaces as a dedicated content type allows visitors to browse locations in a consistent, searchable format.
Creating a Space
To create a Space:
- From the Dashboard, select Spaces > Add New.
- Enter a title for the space.
- Add a description.
- Complete the space details.
- Assign categories or classifications.

Space Information
The information included in a Space should help visitors understand the location and determine whether it meets their needs.
Common details include:
Location Information
- Building name
- Room number
- Location description
Capacity
Specify how many individuals the space can accommodate.
Examples:
- 20 people
- 50 people

Featured Images

- Upload or choose an image from the Media Library.
Recommended image size: 600 × 400 pixels

Displaying Spaces on a Page
Spaces are most commonly displayed using listing and card layouts.
These layouts can automatically display:
- Space name
- Description
- Capacity
- Categories
- Featured image
This allows you to create:
- Room directories
- Building listings
- Facility catalogues
- Searchable space databases
Filtering Spaces
One of the biggest advantages of the Spaces content type is the ability to filter results.
Depending on your website’s configuration, visitors may be able to filter by:
- Building
- Space type
- Equipment
- Accessibility features
This makes it easier for users to find spaces that meet their specific needs.
Best Practices
Use Clear Space Names
Use titles that visitors will immediately recognize.
Good Examples:

Include Accurate Details
Review room capacities, equipment information, and accessibility features regularly to ensure they remain current.
Add Quality Images
Photographs help visitors identify spaces and better understand room layouts.
