Video Post
Intermediate Training Module 1: Content Types
Video content can be an effective way to share information, showcase research, support learning, and tell stories. Rather than uploading video files directly to your website, cutheme uses Video posts to organize and display videos that are hosted on external video platforms.
This approach improves website performance while making it easier to organize, categorize, and display videos throughout your site.
Common uses include:
- Training and tutorials
- Event recordings
- Promotional videos
- Research highlights
- Presentations and lectures
- Student and faculty stories
Working with Video in cutheme
There are two ways to display videos on your website:
Video Posts
Use Video posts when you want to:
- Create a video library
- Build video galleries
- Organize videos by category
- Display collections of related videos
Video Embeds
Use a Video Embed block when you simply want to place a video directly within a page or post.
This lesson focuses on the first option: Video posts.
When to Use a Video Post
Use a Video post when the video should become part of a larger collection of content that can be searched, categorized, and displayed across your website.
Examples include:
- Department video libraries
- Research video collections
- Training resources
- Event recordings
- Student testimonials
Video posts work particularly well when multiple videos need to be managed together.
Creating a Video Post
To create a Video post:
- From the Dashboard, select Videos > Add New.
- Enter a title for the video.
- Add a description.
- Paste the video’s URL.
- Assign categories if appropriate.
- Publish the Video post.
Video Hosting
Videos are not uploaded directly to your website.
Instead, upload the video to a supported platform and then paste the video’s URL into the Video post.
Supported platforms may include:
- YouTube
- Vimeo
- Kaltura
- TED
Additional platforms may be available depending on your site’s configuration.
This approach improves performance and reduces storage requirements on your website.
Adding a Video
Once a video has been uploaded to a supported platform:
- Copy the video’s URL.
- Paste the URL into the Video post.
- Select Embed.
The video will automatically appear within the post.
Tip: Always verify that the video is publicly accessible or shared appropriately before publishing.
Video Descriptions
Every Video post should include a clear title and description.
Visitors should be able to understand:
- What the video is about
- Who the video is intended for
- Whether the content is relevant to them

Descriptions also help improve searchability across your website.
Organizing Videos
Videos can be organized using categories.
Examples include:
- Tutorials
- Research
- Student Stories
- Events
- Training
Using categories makes it easier to:
- Build video galleries
- Create filtered video listings
- Display related videos together
Consistent categorization becomes especially important as your video collection grows.
Displaying Videos on Your Website
Video posts can be displayed using listing and card layouts.
Common uses include:
- Video galleries
- Featured video sections
- Training resource hubs
- Research showcases
Instead of manually adding individual videos to pages, listings can automatically display categorized video content.
You’ll learn more about displaying content in Module 3: Listings & Cards.
Best Practices
Host Videos on Approved Platforms
Always upload videos to a supported video platform rather than directly to your website.
Use Clear Titles
Visitors should immediately understand the video’s purpose.
Write Helpful Descriptions
Descriptions improve usability and make videos easier to find.
Categorize Consistently
Consistent categories help maintain organized video libraries.
Consider Accessibility
Whenever possible:
- Include captions
- Provide transcripts
- Ensure audio quality is clear
These practices improve accessibility and support a wider audience.

Hello and welcome to cutheme Advanced Training, Module 1. In this video, we will cover video posts.
A video post is one of two ways you may upload a video to your page. You can categorize these videos and place them in galleries.
As a note, you cannot directly upload video files to your site. It should either uploaded to YouTube, Vimeo or Kaltura to be able to be added. Videos from TED can also be embedded.
So, to add a video post, navigate to the sidebar. hover over “Videos”, and click “Add New”.
You can also add a video from the top menu. hover over “New”, and click “Videos”.
Once you click, you will be redirected from your current page to the new video post. You can give the post a title, and some text if you want. These are both optional.
So, to add a video to this post, navigate over to the tab containing your video. I’ve got this one from YouTube right here. I’m going to copy the URL, paste it within the embed box, and click on embed. And just like that, I have a video post.
Now, you might want to add a category to it, so that it can be easily grouped with similar content. To do that, go to the right menu, click on video, and go to categories.
So I have categories here, for this one I’m just going to add “General” to it. You can also add a new video category if you want, but we will cover categories later in this training.
