Intermediate Training Module 2: Common Content Blocks
The Quote block is used to highlight quotations, testimonials, key statements, or important excerpts from a larger piece of content. By displaying text in a visually distinct style, quotes stand out from surrounding content and draw attention to important messages.
Quote blocks are commonly used for:
- Notable quotations
- Testimonial excerpts
- Research findings
- Mission statements
- Key messages
- Speaker highlights
Used appropriately, quotes can add credibility, emphasize important ideas, and make pages more engaging.
When to Use a Quote Block
Use a Quote block when you want to emphasize a statement or distinguish it from the rest of the page content.
Examples include:
Quotation:
“Difficult to see; always in motion is the future.”
Yoda, The Empire Strikes Back
Research Finding:
“Early intervention significantly improved student outcomes across all measured categories.”
Key Message:
“Accessibility is everyone’s responsibility.”
The Quote block helps visitors quickly identify important information.
Adding a Quote Block
To add a Quote block:
- Click the + button and search for Quote.
- Select the Quote block.
- Enter the quotation text.
- Add a citation or attribution.
The citation typically identifies the speaker, author, organization, or source of the quote.
Adding a Citation
Whenever possible, include a citation for the quote.
Examples include:
Person:
“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”
Nelson Mandela
Organization:
“Research and innovation drive national prosperity.”
Statistics Canada
Publication:
“Technology continues to transform the way we communicate.”

Providing attribution helps establish credibility and context.
Using Quotes Effectively
Quotes are most effective when they support or reinforce the surrounding content.
For example:
- Supporting a program description with a student testimonial
- Highlighting an important statement from a speaker
- Featuring a research finding within a larger article
- Reinforcing a key organizational message
The Quote block should complement page content rather than replace it.

In this video, we are going to explore using quote blocks for your website’s content.
Shown in the screen is an Example of a Quote block in action. And as you can see, a Quote block gives a highlight on the quotes that are part of your website’s content, making them visually stand out, be easily identified as a quote and draws the user into reading them.
Now that we have explained the purpose of a quote block and how it can improve your website’s content, we will now show you how to add them to your pages.
First, you want to go into editing mode of the page you want to add a quote block to. Then navigate to the block menu by either clicking in between existing blocks, or navigating to the top left section of the page where there is a button with a plus sign on it.
Once you are on the block menu, you can navigate to the quote button and click on it, a new block should appear.
Once its on your page, you can drag it to the location you want by clicking on the block itself, then dragging it into wherever you want it to be on the page.
Once its on the location you want it to be on your page, you can now start adding your quote, and then do not forget to add a citation by using the text box below the quote itself.
And by finishing that step, we have now successfully added a quote block to a page.
