Site Navigation
Intermediate Training Module 4: Site Organization
The navigation menu helps visitors move through your website and find the information they need. In this lesson, you’ll learn how to add, organize, rename, and remove menu items from your site’s navigation.
Note: For guidance on organizing menus and creating an effective site structure, see the Menu Best Practices lesson.
Adding a Page to the Navigation Menu
To add a page to your menu:
- Navigate to Appearance → Menus.
- Locate the page you want to add.
- Use Most Recent, View All, or Search to find the page.
- Select the page.
- Click Add to Menu.
The page will appear at the bottom of the menu structure.
Organizing Menu Items
Menu items can be rearranged using drag and drop.
- Click and drag a menu item.
- Move it to the desired position.
- Click Save Menu.
Changes will appear immediately on your website once the menu is saved.
Creating Submenus
Pages can be organized into parent and child relationships.
To make a menu item a child of another item:
- Drag the menu item beneath its parent.
- Move it slightly to the right until it becomes indented.
- Click Save Menu.
Menu structures can contain multiple levels of hierarchy.
Renaming a Menu Item
The navigation label does not need to match the page title.
To rename a menu item:
- Open the menu item settings.
- Update the Navigation Label field.
- Click Save Menu.
This allows you to use shorter or more user-friendly labels in the navigation menu.
Removing a Menu Item
Removing a page from the menu will not delete the page itself.
To remove a menu item:
- Open the menu item settings.
- Select Remove.
- Click Save Menu.
The page will remain available and can be re-added later if needed.
