RESEARCH INTERESTS:
Genre theory; Literary theory; Popular genres; Science fiction and fantasy; The history and form of graphic novels; Literary ethics.
CURRENT RESEARCH:
My research explores how the generic assumptions and expectations of science fiction and fantasy, as well as the needs of fictional world-building more generally, embed a series of ideological and ethical positions that readers engage with. Additionally, I am interested in the ways the popular fiction explores the limits and boundaries of ‘the human’ through encounters with radical, non-human others.
