Book history; censorship studies; neoliberalism; publishing; the digitization of books; online reading culture; technofetishism; dystopian fiction; contemporary literature
CURRENT RESEARCH:
My proposed PhD research focuses on the politics of Margaret Atwood and remediations of The Handmaid’s Tale. Most interesting to me is her Unburnable Book object, which she created in response to censorship of The Handmaid’s Tale in the U.S and Canada. My research takes a critical approach to this book object but also considers the ways authors and publishers are creatively engaging with book materiality to oppose contemporary censorship in an age where literature and reading is increasingly digital.
