B.A. English, Minor in Psychology ’15
While finishing my BA at Carleton University, I secured a position in the university’s Human Resources Department through the Co-op Program. I absolutely loved studying at Carleton and now I get to continue enjoying the beautiful campus as I move into the world of work. I think that HR is a great fit for me because it feels like a place where English and Psychology meet. Working in HR, I am required to be resourceful, perceptive, and detail-oriented, all things that I practiced during my BA. Some of my everyday work includes maintaining the HR website, onboarding new casual employees, and looking for ways to improve current office processes and procedures. My favourite projects are always those that highlight the researching, analyzing, reading, and writing skills that I worked so hard to foster, such as preparing our annual applications for recognition awards.
I am happiest when my work has an element of creativity, something I loved so much about my undergrad, and I know that any positions I take on in the future will benefit strongly from the innumerable and highly transferable skills that I learned as an English student.
