Degrees: | B.A. (Hons) - English and Psychology (double major), MPH (current) – University of Waterloo |
Since graduating from Carleton, I have had the exciting opportunity to work in a number of roles and disciplines. After my undergraduate degree, I began my career working with young parents in shelter settings and various community health-centre settings. I then transitioned into my work as a program coordinator at a healthcare non-profit, administrating professional development programs for healthcare and long-term care professionals. I have since advanced in my career to my current role of Senior Coordinator, where I lead a team of educational coordinators who support healthcare professionals all over the country to meet their educational goals. Throughout my entire career, my degree in English has been a huge asset. Being a skilled writer and a clear communicator has been essential to my success, and that is what I learned from my time in Carleton’s English program.
My English degree from Carleton has provided me a significant amount of opportunity on my professional path. It provided me with excellent critical thinking and communication skills, which has allowed me to succeed in roles that rely heavily on these skills. It encouraged me to go into fields that require creative thinking and opportunities.
I began my undergraduate degree majoring in Psychology but soon noticed that I was using up all my electives to take English classes. I was drawn to the breadth of topics of the classes, the expertise of the faculty, and the interesting perspectives brought forward by the other students…so I picked it up as a second major and loved every moment of it!
