Undergraduate Programs

Our undergraduate English programs include traditional and cutting-edge components designed to ensure that our students leave Carleton with solid grounding in a range of literary periods, genres, and national/global traditions.  All of our courses promote critical reading and thinking, and four core courses are also designated “writing attentive” to deliver consistent, sequenced training in academic research and writing.  We offer a variety of “hands-on” courses in fiction, poetry, and writing, and for Honours students in their fourth year, seminar classes are offered on a wide range of subjects. The Department also offers other specialized degree options: a B.A. Honours English with Concentration in Creative Writing, and a Co-op option.

For more information on our undergraduate English program, please click on one of the many helpful tabs such as Program Requirements, FAQs, and Departmental Awards. The information they provide will help you to organize your class schedule and plan your workload. To receive additional information while selecting your courses, please contact the Department of English in 1801 Dunton Tower.

All of Carleton’s English programs are designed to introduce students to an exciting range of historical and cultural contexts and literary genres.
