Book cover of “A Leap in the Dark: AIDS, Art and Contemporary Cultures” edited by Allan Allan Klusaček and Ken Morrison in 1992.

For the last year and a half, FIST Adjunct Research Professor Dr. Ryan Conrad has been working with Artexte to digitize and preserve the long out of print book A Leap in the Dark: AIDS, Art and Contemporary Cultures which was edited by Allan Klusaček and Ken Morrison back in 1992. The book came out of the cultural interventions at the Montreal International AIDS Conference in 1989 and was a significant contribution to the literature about cultural resistance and HIV/AIDS activism—particularly within Canada. This World AIDS Day / Day With(out) Art, Dr. Conrad and Artexte have launched the reissued book as an ebook on its thirtieth anniversary.

You can read a short text based on the interviews Dr. Conrad conducted with Allan and Ken last summer that offers greater context for the publication and download the free ebook on Artexte’s website. To read the digitized version of the anthology A Leap in the Dark
