Sharing the Gifts of Social Work Education in Africa
9:00 AM to 10:00 AM | Online
Social work as a profession has the tools necessary to support and bring together not just communities but nations due to its ability to recognize and meet the needs of the people. The profession is relatively new to African countries, including Somaliland. We began our collaborative project in mid-2000, believing that social work in Somaliland can foster growth and nationwide capacity building. It included the development of a Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) program that began in 2008 and a soon-to-be-open Master of Social Work (MSW) program. This new master’s degree will train graduate students in research, mental health, and social policy development.
Join us on Thursday, January 16th for a panel discussion of the history of Carleton University’s School of Social Work, the development of the University of Hargeisa’s BSW and upcoming MSW programs, and the contributions of both schools to their respective communities.
