Honouring Katherine A.H. Graham: Conversations About Her Life and Work

Before the 2026 Katherine A.H. Graham Lecture, join us for two panel discussions reflecting on Katherine’s lasting contributions to her community, the public sector and academia.
The panels will feature presentations from local organizations, municipal leaders in the Leeds-Grenville and Gananoque areas who worked closely with Katherine, and Carleton colleagues, who will speak to the meaningful contributions she made as a scholar and volunteer in her communities. The panels will be moderated by Prof. Robert Shepherd from SPPA.
Panel 1 – 4 p.m. to 4:45 p.m.
Moderator Robert Shepherd will lead a conversation about Katherine’s volunteer contributions to local government and community organizations, featuring:
- John Beddows, Mayor, Municipality of Gananoque
- Suzanne Richter, Director, Thousand Islands Boat Museum
- Todd Robertson, Councillor, United Counties of Leeds and Grenville
- Marty McConnell, OPP, Lansdowne Detachment
The panel will highlight Katherine’s work in Gananoque, her involvement with the Thousand Islands Boat Museum, her contributions to local committees and public service, and her connections within the community.
Panel 2 – 4:50 p.m. to 5:35 p.m.
A second panel will explore Katherine’s contributions to academia, public administration and management, moderated by Robert Shepherd and featuring:
- Frances Abele, Professor Emerita and Distinguished Research Professor, Carleton University
- David Newhouse, Professor Emeritus, Trent University
- Allan Maslove, Professor Emeritus, Carleton University
Following the panels, join us for a reception with refreshments and an opportunity to connect with speakers, colleagues, students and members of the community before the evening’s main event.
