Research Excellence Award

This Award recognizes research excellence, impact and leadership by a FPGA faculty member over the preceding three years. Up to two awards may be given each year when warranted.

Criteria for Award

The Research Excellence Award will be based upon the successful applicant’s record of research and evidence of research leadership and impact in the past three years. The record should demonstrate general excellence in research and particularly evidence of leadership that has made a significant contribution to their field of research, appropriate to the field and the candidate’s stage of career. The focus is on the quality and impact of research activity more than simply volume of publications.

The three year period refers to consecutive calendar years (e.g., 2021, 2022, 2023). However, recognizing that publication schedules are not entirely within candidates’ control, publications from three months before or after the three year period may also be considered at the selection committee’s discretion; candidates are encouraged to explain the relevant circumstances. Faculty member who have taken an approved leave of duties beyond sabbatical and administrative leave (e.g., parental leave, medical leave, compassionate leave, etc.) may adjust their time period accordingly and are asked to specify these details in their application letter.
