Support Services (Written and Oral)

The Department of French offers Support Services (Services de Soutien) that are available for free to all students enrolled in FREN classes, no matter what level.

For Fall 2025, the services will be available starting September 22nd. Detailed schedules can be found on Brightspace (see below).

You can also benefit from our renovated Student Lounge and Computer Lab (DT 1605) where Antidote is available for all students.

Oral Support

You can choose from different services, all geared to improving your oral French skills.

We offer one-on-one sessions to practice on a specific topic or assignment, group conversations to practice casual conversation in a no-pressure environment and specific practice session for students that need to pass the Department’s oral proficiency exam by the end of their degree.

Find more info on each of these services below.

1. One-on-one sessions (Soutien oral individuel)

2. Group conversations (Soutien oral libre)

3. Pratique pour l’examen oral des finissants

Written Support

We offer one-on-one sessions geared to reinforce your written French. (Soutien écrit)

  • 40-minute appointment with a language assistant who will provide feedback to address specific issues.
  • Students should have an assignment they are working on.
  • By appointment (sign up on Brightspace)
  • If you have booked a session and find yourself unable to attend, you must cancel your appointment online to allow someone else to make use of that time slot.
