Employability Capital in Academic and Non-Academic Fields of Work

Monday, November 9, 2026 from 10:00 am to 11:30 am

Employability is more than simply earning a graduate degree. While your degree is an important asset, success in the job market often depends on a range of other forms of “capital,” including experience, networks, reputation, and professional skills. Many of these can be difficult to recognize, develop, or communicate effectively.

In this session, we’ll explore the different forms of employability capital and how they shape career opportunities in both academic and non-academic settings. Understanding these factors can help you take a more strategic approach to career development, job searching, and long-term professional success.

All graduate students and postdocs are welcome. If you are a TA, this session counts toward voluntary paid training hours, provided that you are working as a TA in the term when the training takes place.
