There are several different summer research opportunities for Health Sciences undergraduate students that are meant to stimulate your interest in health-related research. Some of these include the Dean Summer Research Internship (DSRI), Health Sciences Research Internship (HSRI), and NSERC Undergraduate Student Research Award (USRA). If you would like to gain research experience that complements your studies in an academic setting, these competitive awards can provide you with financial support.
While the application process, award value, award duration, and student eligibility vary across the awards, they all have one thing in common – you first need to approach a faculty supervisor who is accepting students to inquire if they will be your sponsor for the award and mentor during the summer.

- Read the list of Health Sciences faculty who will be accepting applications for the 2024 summer student research opportunities:

- Contact a prospective faculty supervisor by email. Your email should contain the following information:
- A brief outline of why you want to work with the specific professor
- The opportunity you are interested in (DSRI, HSRI, USRA, other)
- Your unofficial transcript
- A CV, including experiences that may be relevant to the research opportunity/lab
Please note that the professor must receive these introductory e-mails no later than February 14th 2024 (for DSRI and HSRI applications) to allow sufficient time to interview and select students and to develop applications. Students interested in contacting a faculty member for the NSERC-USRA opportunity should do so ASAP.
The official application deadline for the NSERC-USRA is February 15, 2024
The official application deadline for the DSRI is February 28th, 2024.
The official application deadline for the HSRI is March 1st , 2024; All applications must be accompanied by a CV and a copy of your transcript and be submitted to Sandra Cloutier (SandraCloutier@cunet.carleton.ca)
