NSERC CREATE student Alex Federman spent an intensive five days in Valencia, Spain in August and September this year, studying techniques in heritage documentation. The 2016 Summer School was sponsored by CIPA, the Scientific Committee on Heritage Documentation for ICOMOS. Students from around the globe learned the theoretical and methodological essentials of total station survey, terrestrial laser scanning and image-based modelling for the correct geometrical documentation of cultural heritage artifacts. For more info on CIPA and its summer schools, see the CIPA website.

Alex is an NSERC CREATE Heritage Engineering student in his second year of a Master’s degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering at Carleton University. His tuition and travel expenses for the Valencia school were funded by the NSERC CREATE Program.
