We, Local Engagement Refugee Research Network SSHRC funded research partnership with the Project Secretariat based at Carleton university, are recruiting a part-time Multimedia & Video Editor. The ideal candidate is a registered student at a Canadian post-secondary institution majoring in in Film Studies, Communications and Media

Studies, Media Production and Design, Journalism, or Interactive Multimedia and Design with a solid experience in conceptualizing and executing video projects from start to finish. The contract is from 15 March  – 30 June 2024 with flexible scheduling, hourly rate $20 – $25/hr. Preferably, we would like to have a position filled as of 01 March, if we are able to recruit an ideal candidate sooner – the position may be filled prior to the posted start date.

Scope of Work

The Multimedia Officer /Video Editor will provide design support to increase awareness and impact of the Local Engagement Refugee Research Network (LERRN) partnership grant funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC). Multimedia Officer /video editor will perform a variety of tasks in support of the operations of the Local Engagement Refugee Research Network (LERRN). Duties will include, but not be limited to:

Primary Duties or Responsibilities

Multimedia Officer /video editor will perform a variety of tasks in support of the operations of the Local Engagement Refugee Research Network (LERRN). Duties will include, but not be limited to:

  • Collaborate with the LERRN communications team to conceptualize and develop video ideas that align with LERRN objectives.
  • Assist with pre-production tasks such as scriptwriting, storyboarding, and location scouting.
  • Edit raw footage to create compelling and visually appealing research promotional materials and knowledge mobilization products.
  • Film, produce and edit video materials that affectively and accurately reflect the theme and tone of a research product.
  • Sourcing relevant B-roll from internal library and online.
  • Enhance video and audio quality, add special effects, and incorporate relevant graphics and animations, identifying and incorporating music scores, create/edit subtitles in the videos, as needed.
  • Post video on Youtube, create brief description for each video.
  • Manage and archive video media in a digital library.

Deliverables:

  • Produce 10 videos for LERRN Oral History Project, adding/using existing interview footage and online stock footage
  • Produce short promo video for each theme of the ten videos to be used in LERRN Social media networks.
  • Produce four short promo video for each LERRN working papers.
  • Provision of own editing equipment/software to fulfill the deliverables. No editing equipment or software will be provided under this assignment.

Qualifications:

  • Be a registered student, majoring in majoring in Film Studies, Communications and Media Studies, Media Production and Design, Journalism, or Interactive Multimedia and Design for the duration of the contract
  • Proven video editing experience and familiarity with design and editing software (Adobe Creative Suite, Final Cut Pro, DaVinci Resolve, Avid, Canva, etc.)
  • Proficiency in operating professional video cameras, DSLRs or mirrorless cameras
  • Strong understanding of lighting techniques and audio recording
  • Experience in coordinating shoots such as interviews, scheduling, and logistics planning.
  • Strong visual storytelling ability, experience in creating meaningful stories and the know- how to edit videos to resonate with different audiences
  • Experience in scriptwriting, storyboarding, and conceptualization.
  • Ability to conceptualize and execute video projects from start to finish
  • Experience with editing video content for web and social media
  • Understand the sensitivities of the subjects represented
  • Have proven ability to be a supportive and productive team member in a rapidly changing work environment, deadline-oriented and manages time effectively
