Morouj BakhshMorouj is a Muslim woman, proud to have developed her professional career in Canada. She graduated with a B.Sc. in Health Management from York University, and has more than seven years of experience in nonprofits, including significant experience with homeless shelters. She worked as the Team Lead Refugees Employment Counselor with YMCA, and worked directly with refugees from war torn countries. This was a very specific experience for her as an immigrant, since she understood the challenges they faced and was happy to give back.

Her experiences have allowed her to work with increasing responsibilities carrying out social welfare tasks at many organizations. These diverse experiences working with vulnerable populations reflect her commitment to growth, professionalism and leadership.

With her current work as a Caseworker for Employment and Social Services, with the City of Toronto, she’s seeing that her dream of developing a shelter system that proactively addresses the social determinants of health of all of Canada’s diaspora is beginning to unfold.

Morouj is confident that the MPNL will offer the skills and expertise that she will need to achieve her goals of advancing equity for Muslim women through the nonprofit sector.
