Pursuant to Article 16.3 of the CUPE 4600 Unit 2 Collective Agreement, subject to Article 16.2 and 16.4 through 16.7, applications are invited from members of the CUPE 4600 bargaining unit and other interested persons to teach the following Public Policy and Administration courses during the 2026 summer term.

Candidates should hold at least a Masters degree and have particular research or employment experience in a relevant field. Priority will be given to candidates with higher research degrees and greater professional experience. Professional experience will also be favourably considered.

This required course in the Master and/or Diploma of Philanthropy and Nonprofit Leadership (MPNL and/or DPNL) programs is intended to provide students with an understanding of the theories, motivations, values and ethics, and history of philanthropy and civil society, and provide a critical examination and practical application of its role in relation to government, business and society. It includes trends, debates and emerging challenges in philanthropy and voluntary action over time and in different cultures and regions, with some consideration of Canada.

Case studies, simulations, role playing and other pedagogy suitable to adult learners is an important component of the course. Professional experience in the nonprofit, charitable and philanthropic sector could be a valuable asset.

The students are a diverse mix of experienced and aspiring professionals enrolled in the Master and/or Diploma of Philanthropy and Nonprofit Leadership, the only degree of its kind in Canada.

The instructor must be able to teach during the two-week Summer Institute, an in-person, intensive, executive-style course from June 8 to June 19, 2026 (half days from 8:30-12:00 p.m. in week 1, and 1:30-4:30 p.m. in week 2), on the Carleton University campus, in Ottawa. The online component of the course spans the full summer term, from early-May to mid-August, 2026. Through the online format, the Instructor will facilitate student preparation for the Summer Institute, timely completion of readings and assignments, and student engagement in online discussion forums. The syllabus should be ready by mid-April (copies of the syllabus from previous years are available); the instructor should be prepared to have some online contact with students from this time to course delivery and from course delivery until final assignments are due and evaluated in later August. This course should have approximately 30 students and does not have a teaching assistant.
