Carleton Music Ensemble to Ring in Chinese New Year with Concert
Carleton’s Ottawa Transpacific Orchestra, a music student ensemble focusing on cross-cultural musical dialogue, will host a concert in celebration of the Chinese New Year. They will be joined onstage by Prof. Yuening Liu and the Jasmine Ensemble of the Central Conservatory of Music of Beijing, and Prof. Zhao Qun, professor of traditional Chinese opera at the Shanghai Theatre Academy, as well as Carleton Music faculty members James Wright and John Higney, among others.
When: Sunday, Feb. 11, 2018, at 3 p.m.
Where: Dominion-Chalmers United Church, 355 Cooper Street, Ottawa
Info: This event is free and open to the public. Registration is available online.
Reception: A Chinese dinner will be provided in Woodside Hall, at modest cost, following the performance.
Media are invited to attend the event.
The fusion ensemble blends the enchanting sounds of traditional Chinese instruments with musical idioms from the western jazz, pop and classical traditions. The performances are inspired by the Carleton Music students’ experiential learning trips to China in 2016 and 2017.
