Carleton Commemorates Victims on 30th Anniversary of the Montreal Massacre
The Carleton University community will commemorate victims of the Montreal massacre on the 30th anniversary of the tragedy.
Time: Friday, December 6, 2019 from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Location: Tory Building foyer, Carleton University
On December 6, 1989, 13 female students and a female administrator at l’École Polytechnique de Montréal were murdered because they were women. Their deaths led Parliament to designate December 6 as the Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women. This day represents an opportunity to acknowledge that women in Canada, and globally, face disproportionate levels of violence. It is also an opportunity to consider the reality and existence of continued gender-based violence and to take action to eliminate all forms of it in our communities.
Cynthia Cruickshank, associate professor, Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, will lead the event. President, Benoit-Antoine Bacon and Ikram Jama, human rights and equity advisor for the Department of Equity and Inclusive Communities, will make brief remarks at 12:00 p.m. Afterward, attendees will have the opportunity to visit displays from across the campus.
