His research taps into an eclectic mix of topics including research in the governance of charities and non-profits; strategic intelligence of small to mid-size enterprises; the recruitment and life trajectories of accountants.

Darmody is available to discuss topics around marketing, branding, and media/business/growth opportunities that can come from the purchase of the Senators.

Darmody’s current research interests include cultural studies of digital marketing practice, Big Data, surveillance, consumer work, and consumer knowledge creation and exchange. He is currently working on projects that investigate contemporary marketing practices as new forms of consumer surveillance, how consumers produce and strategically manage their knowledge in digital spaces, and studies of ‘marketer behaviour’ — the roles that marketers play in shaping and giving definition to markets and consumer culture.

Young recently wrote an article for the Conversation entitled The Ottawa Senators sale is about a lot more than gate receipts and star power.

His research covers four overlapping areas, media theory, and cultural techniques, histories of data and information, infrastructure studies, and critical internet studies.

He is in the early stages of building a long-term project on sports gambling, datafication and financialization.
