2024 Marston LaFrance Lecture, Our Climate, Our Permafrost
The Marston LaFrance lecture was delivered by Chris Burn on Thursday, 10th October in Carleton University’s Dunton Tower.
Each year, the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences awards the Marston LaFrance Research Fellowship to one of its outstanding faculty members in order to facilitate the completion of a major research project that requires significant release time. Once the year has completed, the Fellowship recipient presents a seminar or public lecture on some aspect of the research conducted while on the LaFrance Fellowship.
The Fellowship was established in 1979 by the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences in memory of Marston LaFrance, former Professor of English and Dean of Arts at Carleton University.
Each year, Carleton University hosts the Carleton Challenge Conference, bringing together Canadian changemakers and thought leaders from a wide range of sectors for a single day of forward-thinking discussions on a pressing global issue.
The 2024 Challenge Conference was held on 8th May, with a focus on climate change. The conference featured Chris Burn talking on National Priorities: Where Should Canada Go Next?
NSERC PermafrostNet Data Hackathon
The 2020 NSERC PermafrostNet Data Hackathon was organized to support members of the network in creating metadata records and publishing datasets.
The 2020 permafrost data workshop addressed questions related to permafrost data management within NSERC PermafrostNet and in the broader Canadian context.
Towards a Canadian Permafrost Network
The Towards a Canadian Permafrost Network workshop was held on February 14 & 15, 2017 to investigate how the range of stakeholders concerned can work together to address the big challenges and opportunities in the permafrost community.
Symposium in honour of Professor J.R. Mackay (1915-2014)
A symposium was held on 22nd September, 2015, at the 7th Canadian Permafrost Conference and 68th Canadian Geotechnical Conference to honour the memory of Professor J. Ross Mackay, the outstanding Canadian permafrost scientist.
