Chanel Lorena
Research Assistant
Chanel Lorena holds a Bachelor of Arts Honours in Criminology and Criminal Justice from Carleton University, with a concentration in Law and a minor in Psychology. She is currently completing her final year of the Master of Public Policy and Administration at Carleton, specializing in Indigenous Policy and Administration.
Passionate about Indigenous leadership and capacity building, Chanel has dedicated much of her academic and personal work to these areas. Her undergraduate research focused on nation-specific legal orders and political mobilization, with her thesis examining the policing of Indigenous land conflicts in Canada. At the graduate level, she has expanded her focus to include public policy decisions, section 35 governments, and First Nations community development.
As a student research assistant with the Rebuilding First Nations Governance (RFNG) project, Chanel looks forward to deepening her knowledge and contributing to ongoing research regarding settler colonial policy and inherent rights governance.
