Descanon Cook
Research Assistant
Descanon Cook is a member of Opaskwayak Cree Nation and of Metis ancestry, Treaty 5 territory. Canon is currently completing the inaugural Certificate of Indigenous Journalism in Indigenous Communities at Carleton University, in joint partnership with Kenjgewin Teg and the First Nations Technical Institute. Canon is also a recent graduate of Laurentian University’s Bachelor of Multidisciplinary Studies (Major Indigenous Studies, Minor Sociology) and Lift Economy’s online MBA program that explores economic systems away from market capitalism and extractive processes.
In the meantime, Canon is currently crisscrossing Turtle Island in a travel trailer with their partner and two dogs, witnessing and believing that we are born free and sovereign people.
