Al Hamdani, CFA, is a financial services executive and leader with over 25 years of experience in portfolio management, corporate finance, enterprise risk management and transformation.

Al is currently Executive Vice-President and Chief Business Officer at the Canada Development Investment Corporation (CDEV), where he helped start up a subsidiary which provides debt and equity financing to companies impacted by COVID-19 and now oversees a $4+ billion debt and equity portfolio. Previously, he held several leadership roles at Export Development Canada (EDC), including Chief Risk Officer where he oversaw its $120+ billion debt, insurance and equity portfolio and also led a major transformation of EDC’s risk and governance practices. He also served as Global Head of Project Finance, where he built a successful infrastructure financing business and closed project financings across various industries in numerous countries around the world. Earlier in his career, Al also had roles at CIBC Capital Markets as well as at the Bank of Canada. Al is a Chartered Financial Analyst and has an MBA from the Rotman School of Management and a BA in Economics from Carleton.

Al is on the Board of Directors of the Queensway Carleton Hospital, where he is Chair of the Audit, Finance and Digital Services Committee. Al is also Vice Chair of the Board of Directors of Service Coordination Support, an entity which empowers and assists persons with developmental disabilities. Al is an avid golfer, runner and snowboarder as well as an amateur guitarist who loves all kinds of music.

Al has been elected to the Board of Governors for a three-year term commencing July 1, 2022 and ending on June 30, 2025.
