Graduate Student

Program: Masters of Engineering, Civil Engineering

Harjit is an international student, currently completing her second year of Master of Engineering in Civil Engineering at Carleton University. She has completed her Bachelor of Engineering in Civil Engineering from India, which is her native country.

During her Bachelors, Harjit has been an active student in extra-curricular and co-curricular activities, along with excelling in academics. She was a Department Topper and was awarded with a Silver Medal in the Convocation Ceremony.

Harjit has a notable prior experience of holding positions with responsibilities. In her third year of engineering, Harjit was the Department’s Board of Studies member as a student nominee. During the same year, she was also elected as the Vice-President of Professional Committee of the Department. For a term, Harjit also had the opportunity to become a Peer-Teacher, for which she was nominally paid.

Harjit strongly believes that service to humanity is service to God, and therefore she has been a part of a couple of social service organisations, that stand for humanity, and render their service to mankind. She has conviction in the power of the youth and the women, and therefore she joined the youth wing of a political party in India, and served as a district convenor.

After completing undergraduate studies, with a thought to upgrade her technical skills, Harjit decided to pursue higher studies in Canada, and got an admission to Carleton University.

At Carleton, she was a volunteer with Campus Activity Board, right before getting elected to Board of Governors, as a Graduate Student Governor. Being an international student herself, Harjit ran in the elections with the aim to stand for the rights of international students and their concerns over affordability, so as to ensure a satisfying student experience at Carleton.

Harjit was elected to the Board of Governors for a one-year term commencing July 1, 2021 and ending June 30, 2022.
