Program Assistant

Lucas Balog is a Mechatronics and Robotics Engineering Student at Queen’s University heading into his final year. He is a recipient of the Margaret Hooey Governance Award, Queen’s University Chancellor’s Scholarship, W.W. King Scholarship, and the James Hillier Scholarship. Lucas is a dedicated student leader and volunteer putting in many hours as a Queen’s Senate Caucus Chair, Scout Leader, Orientation Executive, and representative on many governance bodies. 

A tinker and inventor, Lucas enjoys designing and integrating mechatronics systems such as wireless LED costumes and retrofitting old appliances with IOT capabilities. 

He will be joining Shad Carelton after finishing a 12 month Mechatronics Design Co-Op at ATS Kingston Innovation Center where he worked on improvements to Symphoni electronic cam assembly technology and SuperTrak linear movement technology. 

In his downtime, Lucas enjoys baking and cooking often making creations that taste a lot better than they look. He often tries to get out on a hike or run at local conservation areas. 

As a Shad 2021 alumni, Program Assistant in 2024 and volunteer in 2025 Lucas is excited to return to the program to see the creativity, innovation, and leadership that Shads routinely demonstrate.
