A disciplinary nomad, I have completed graduate degrees in both science and sociology and have recently started a postdoctoral fellowship in health law (University of Ottawa). My research explores the tensions and opportunities between disciplines to focus on critical aspects of knowledge production, development and uses of novel technologies, and new theoretical and methodological perspectives. My dissertation research looked at theoretical and philosophical elements of death and dying amidst life support technologies in the intensive care unit. My postdoctoral work will critically explore the social implications of implanted brain devices.
My interest in teaching lies in exploring with students the intersections between science and society, especially as they play out in the world of medicine and medical practice. I take a collaborative and co-constructed approach to teaching, preferring to see the classroom as a place of ongoing creative experimentation and critical inquiry rather than a site of knowledge transfer.
