Fahad obtained his PhD in Public Policy from the School of Public Policy and Administration at Carleton University. For his doctoral research, supported by SSHRC’s Joseph-Armand Bombardier Canada Graduate Scholarship and the Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation’s Doctoral Scholarship, he examined the securitization of Muslim civil society organizations under national security regimes in Canada and the U.K. He is currently pursuing a Postdoctoral Fellowship at the Centre for Criminology and Sociolegal Studies at University of Toronto. His research interests encompass critical terrorism/radicalization studies; racialized practices of national security, policing, and surveillance; civil society and resistance; racial justice and inequality; and the justice and community philanthropy.

Fahad also provides consulting advice and prepares research reports for social purpose and community-based organizations to enhance the impact of their mission. Prior to commencing his doctoral studies, Fahad was the Chief Operating Officer and then, the interim CEO of Soliya, a nonprofit that mobilizes young adults from western and predominantly Muslim societies to foster greater cross-cultural understanding. He was also appointed as the VP of Strategic Initiatives at Search for Common Ground, one of the world’s largest peacebuilding organizations. Fahad is the current treasurer and former chair of the board of directors of Thousand Currents, a U.S. based public foundation that supports Global South grassroots groups led by women, youth, and Indigenous Peoples. He also serves as a board member and treasurer for Leadnow Society, a nonprofit that organizes campaigns to build a just, sustainable, and equitable Canada.
