Using Generative AI in Your Work: From Guidelines to Practice
This foundational workshop introduces practical and responsible ways staff can use generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) tools, particularly Microsoft Copilot, to support everyday work. Participants will explore why GenAI matters in their roles, what is allowed and not allowed under Carleton’s AI Framework, guidelines and policies, and how to apply basic prompting techniques to get more useful results from Copilot. Through small-group discussion and hands-on activities, staff will build confidence using GenAI appropriately while maintaining privacy, professional judgement and accountability. No prior experience with GenAI is required.
Learning Outcomes
At the end of this workshop, staff and faculty will be able to:
- Describe appropriate and inappropriate uses of AI in your role, using Carleton’s AI Framework as a guide
- Identify tasks where Microsoft Copilot could support your work while maintaining privacy and professional judgement
- Apply basic prompting strategies to improve the quality and usefulness of the AI-generated outputs
- Identify available resources and supports related to AI use at Carleton
