Achim Hurrelmann is Professor of Political Science and Co-Director of the Centre for European Studies at Carleton University. His research examines political contestation about regional and global governance, with a focus on the European Union.

Schmidt, Cathleen — Administrator

Cathleen Schmidt is Network Administrator for the TRADEPOL Network with the Centre for European Studies at Carleton University. Previously, she worked as a Project Coordinator with the Centre’s Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence between 2013 and 2026.

Jörg Broschek is Laurier Research Chair and Professor in the Department of Political Science and North American Studies at Wilfrid Laurier University, Waterloo, Canada. His research interests are federalism/multilevel governance and political economy with a focus on trade, industrial and transportation policy.

Graham Brownlow, FREcon is Reader in Economics at Queen’s Business School (QBS). Graham’s research interests include economic history, business history, institutional economics, business economics, and economic communication.

Burton, Christopher

Christopher Burton is Executive Director of the Open Insights Hub at Global Affairs Canada, where he leads analysis and engagement on development, foreign affairs, and trade. His work focuses on international and economic policies, drawing on experience across headquarters in Ottawa and postings in Europe, Asia, and the Caribbean.

Mark Camilleri is the founder and President of the Canada EU Trade and Investment Association (CEUTIA), a Brussels-based business organization dedicated to advancing the Canada-EU economic and trade relationship. A Canadian-European national based in Brussels, Mark is a leading expert on Canada-EU trade, investment, and regulatory affairs. He is the founder of Camilleri Law, a boutique law firm specializing in Canada-EU trade and regulation and policy.

De Bièvre, Dirk

Dirk De Bièvre is professor of international relations and international political economy at the University of Antwerp. His research examines multilateralism in the World Trade Organization, preferential trade agreements, European Union trade policy and Global Value Chains, trade wars, interest groups in the EU, coalition formation in the linkage of trade and climate policies and the EU Carbon Adjustment Mechanism, and European defense procurement cooperation

DeBardeleben, Joan

Joan DeBardeleben, Distinguished Research Professor, Carleton University. Research interests include: Canada-EU relations; EU-Canada cooperation relating to multilateralism and foreign policy issues; the EU’s Eastern Partnership policy; federalism and multi-level governance in Europe; climate change policy and cooperation in the EU and Canada.

Francesco Duina is Charles A. Dana Professor of Sociology and European Studies at Bates College (USA). His research focuses on the connections between international trade, culture, and politics – with special attention going to Europe and the Americas.

Andreas Dür is Professor of International Politics and Head of the Department of Political Science at the University of Salzburg, Austria. His research interests encompass trade policy, interest groups, and public opinion.

Egan, Michelle

Michelle Egan is Professor and School of International Service and Jean Monnet Professor ad personam in the School of International Service at American University. She is Co-Director of the Transatlantic Policy Center (TPC) and Fellow at the German Marshall Fund (GMF). Her research interests include trade, economic security, transatlantic relations, multi-level governance and subnational politics in the US, EU and Canada.

Ergenc, Ceren

Dr. Ceren Ergenc is a Research Fellow at CEPS, holding a PhD in Political Science from Boston University. Her work focuses on global partnerships and connectivity — China’s Belt and Road Initiative, geoeconomic strategy, and the minilateral architectures shaping Europe-China-Global South relations — alongside China’s domestic policy, investment in Europe, and industrial governance. Proficient in Chinese, she conducts field research across Asia and Europe.

Foss, Matthew

Matthew Foss, a member of the Métis Nation of Alberta, has over 25 years of experience in public policy, energy economics, and research. As Vice President, Research & Public Policy at CCIB, he advances Indigenous business through advocacy and research. He also serves on national boards and advisory bodies.

Gingrich, Meg

Meg Gingrich is the Assistant to the National Director at the United Steelworkers Canadian National Office. She is the senior administrative and policy advisor to the USW in Canada with lead responsibility on issues relating to trade, industrial policy and the green economy. Meg acts as the central liaison on these issues with the leadership of the union in the United States.

Viviane Gravey is a Senior Lecturer in European Politics in the Centre for Public Policy and Administration at Queen’s University Belfast. Her research focuses on the relationship between policy change and shocks to policy-making systems, in the European Union and the UK, with a particular interest in environmental, agriculture and trade policies.

Hansen-Kuhn, Karen

Karen Hansen-Kuhn is Director of Trade and International Strategies at the Institute for Agriculture and Trade Policy. She leads IATP’s analysis and advocacy on trade policy and alternative solutions to advance fair and sustainable food and farm systems.

Herranz-Surrallés, Anna

Anna Herranz-Surrallés is Associate Professor of International Relations at Maastricht University. Her research focuses on the (geo)politicisation of external economic policies, particularly in the domain of energy policy, including foreign investment, infrastructural projects and green tech supply chains.

Laura Macdonald is a Chancellor’s Professor in the Department of Political Science and the Institute of Political Economy at Carleton University. Antonio Ortiz-Mena is an Adjunct Professor at Georgetown University and President & CEO of AOM Advisors. He chairs the USMCA Committee of Mexico’s Foreign Trade Council (COMCE). A member of Mexico’s original NAFTA negotiating team and Minister for Economic Affairs at the Mexican Embassy in Washington, he specializes in international trade, geopolitics, and North American economic integration.

Damian Raess is Professor at the Graduate School of International Studies and Co-Chairholder of the Couche-Tard Research Chair on Global Value Chains at Université Laval. His research focuses on the public and private governance of labor standards through trade, as well as on public opinion toward regulating digital globalization.

Scott Hamilton is a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Antwerp specialized in the politicization of trade, environment and security. His FWO research project, RESONANCE, analyses the impact of strategic bystanders on the politicization of EU policy paradigms.
